Belt conveyor components explained
Understand the load path from the loading chute to the drive, belt, idlers and take-up.
Safety first: observe a running conveyor only from designated guarded positions. Isolate, lock out and verify zero energy, and secure take-up movement, before any hands-on check or correction.
Carry & return
Carry idlers support the loaded belt; return idlers support the empty return strand. Impact supports limit deflection at loading points.
Drive & take-up
The drive pulley transfers traction. The take-up provides tension and accommodates length change; it contains potentially hazardous stored energy.
Transfer & cleaning
Chutes guide material; skirts contain the load; cleaners reduce carryback. Incorrect adjustment can increase wear and resistance.
