Conveyor belt cover grade selection
Cover compound and cover thickness solve different problems. Review abrasion, impact, temperature, oils and fire requirements together.
Safety first: observe a running conveyor only from designated guarded positions. Isolate, lock out and verify zero energy, and secure take-up movement, before any hands-on check or correction.
Compound
Specify resistance to the actual material and environment. Mixed heat and oil exposure requires a compound approved for both, not two separate generic grades.
Thickness
Use supplier minimum cover, measured wear rate and desired operating hours to screen a thickness. Increase impact resistance through transfer design and carcass choice as well as cover selection.
Constraints
Additional cover increases belt mass and may affect flexing and pulley requirements. Final top and bottom cover gauges require supplier approval.
